Quarter 2 is over, and we’ve looked at what you all played on Roll20 over the last three months. Here’s the brief overview of The Orr Group Industry Report for Q2 2017:

We’ve broken our Sample Sizes for the last 6 quarters in a row! It’s really exciting and fulfilling for us to see our users return, again and again, and to see new gamers join their ranks. Thank you for hanging out with us!

Once again, _Dungeons & Dragons _fifth edition activity has increased on Roll20! 52% of all Roll20 games are 5E games, and 62% of Roll20 users actively joined in a 5E game this quarter. The gap continues to widen, ever so slightly, between 5E and Pathfinder and 3.5E.

World of Darkness games have risen above D&D 4E! It’s likely that the hype from all the new World of Darkness video games coming from White Wolf (as well as the exciting upcoming V5 RPG) is turning gamers back to the current editions from Onyx Path.

The FATE series have increased in activity as well—again! Once again we attribute this partly to the most recently launched Rollplay show, Nebula Jazz, which uses the FATE Accelerated ruleset.

Here’s the full Q1 2017 report:

This quarter we also welcome Open Legend to the list, since the game saw enough activity to pull it from under the Other Games umbrella!

Mouse Guard had a nice surge this quarter, which we suspect is in part thanks to the regular comic releases from David Petersen, and in part to a recent Rollplay one shot using the RPG. Burning Wheel, RuneQuest, and Das Schwarze Auge, have also been continuously rising in the ranks. Final Fantasy Games’s announcement of the upcoming Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game also led to more people playing AEG’s L5R.

A Quick Note About The Orr Group Industry Report:

We pull our data from two locations within Roll20 member profiles. Player numbers are drawn from the “Enjoys Playing” and “Seeks Group For” sections, while Game numbers come from the “My Campaigns” section. Our percentages can total more than 100%, particularly Player numbers, since each player will list their interest in multiple games. The report is meant to be a representative sample, and the game listings are curated by Roll20 staff. For more details about how our report works, you can always look back at our in-depth explanation.
