The Roll20 Team
We here at Roll20 know a good quest when we see one, and we know it starts with a noble cause.
With Code2040, we’ve found a cause worth championing, and we’re asking you to join us on the adventure.
Through our Tiltify campaign, we’ve partnered with Code2040 to aid in their mission against racial disparity in the tech industry. We’re matching donations up to $50,000, and we’re in it for the long haul—we’re going to keep the campaign going until we reach that goal.
Maybe you’ve seen the rider on the bottom of our blog, asking you to check out our Tiltify campaign, or maybe you’ve seen our social posts pointing you in that direction. Maybe you even had a chance to watch the Roundtable we hosted a while back, when we had Danielle Owens from Code2040 join us to talk about the organization’s mission.
But you might not know why we chose to partner with Code2040.
Roll20 is more than a website. We’re a tech company, and our members come from all sorts of educational, personal, and professional backgrounds. With those different backgrounds come different perspectives.
We know that a more diverse party is better equipped to handle any and all incoming obstacles, and we know that making room for everyone at the table isn’t just good for games— it’s the right thing to do.
Code2040’s mission is to activate, connect, and mobilize the largest racial equity community in tech to dismantle the structural barriers that prevent the full participation and leadership of Black and Latinx people in the innovation economy. You can read more about that goal, including the organization’s strategic plan to achieve it, here on their website.
As a tech company, we want to see that goal achieved. We want to live in a world where Black and Latinx people are contributing, at all levels, in all roles, to the innovation economy. It’s deeply significant and deeply personal for us.
That’s why we’ve taken on this quest.
Like we said, we’ve pledged to match contributions up to $50,000 to Code2040. That means that we’ve promised to give that much to aid Code2040’s cause. When you give, we give.
We’re matching in this way because Roll20 is a community-oriented platform. That might sound cheesy, but it’s true; we exist because a group of friends needed a way to stay connected and play tabletop games, even after moving away from each other, spreading out to different corners of the US.
We try to keep our community focus alive and at the forefront of our collective minds, always. It drives the work we do.
So we consider this method of fundraising a joint effort with you, the community. We’re asking you to lend a hand and give what you can, and in return, we’ll match it. In doing so, we’ll double the contribution that would be possible otherwise.
Working towards a better tomorrow is never easy. It can be difficult, demoralizing, and, of course, expensive. We recognize that times are hard now for many, and we know that not everyone is capable of giving. That’s OK. Even if you can’t give, just sharing the campaign, or even taking the time to read this post, helps.
If you can contribute, from the bottom of our hearts: Thank you. Know that you’re helping a great cause work towards a better future.
So make us put our money where our mouth is. Help Code2040. Join us, and let’s head, side-by-side, into the world that’s waiting just over the horizon.
And as always: Thanks for playing with us.
