Yesterday, we announced that Updated Dynamic Lighting reached feature parity with Legacy Dynamic Lighting. That means that Updated Dynamic Lighting does everything that Legacy Dynamic Lighting can do—and then some.
If you’re curious about Updated Dynamic Lighting, check out our blog post from April to learn more.
As we mention in the post above, we’ll be retiring Legacy Dynamic Lighting at some point in the future. While we’re not ready to announce a date for that retirement, we do have a new development working towards that date: The Dynamic Lighting Conversion Tool.
What is it?
The Dynamic Lighting Conversion Tool allows users to convert their Legacy Dynamic Lighting games to Updated Dynamic Lighting. It’s easy to use, and it’ll switch both your game’s existing Token and Page settings with just a few clicks.
__Where is it? __
The Dynamic Lighting Conversion Tool is now available on the Dev server, and Pro-level subscribers already have access. If you’d like to learn how to get on the Dev server, head here. If you’re not Pro and you’re interested in trying it out, you can learn more about subscribing here. The Conversion Tool will be available for everyone soon, after we’ve had a chance to test the waters a bit. If you’re a Pro user trying the Conversion Tool out, please give us any feedback you might have here.
__Why do we need it? __
Updated Dynamic Lighting brings faster performance, additional features, and an overall better lighting and exploration experience. It’s been in active development for a while, during which time users could test it out and provide feedback as we worked to bring it to feature parity with Legacy Dynamic Lighting.
Now, we’ve hit that goal. But that doesn’t mean development is over. We’re going to continue to refine, tweak, and tune Updated Dynamic Lighting. That said, part of that development will be, eventually, sunsetting Legacy Dynamic Lighting.
Before we reach that point, however, we want to make sure users have the time and resources necessary to convert their games to Updated Dynamic Lighting. That’s why we’ve developed the Dynamic Lighting Conversion tool. We want to make sure the transition process is as smooth as possible.
__How Does it Work? __
The Conversion tool just converts all your Legacy Dynamic Lighting settings into Updated Dynamic Lighting settings.
To use it, you’ll navigate to the game details page and click the Settings dropdown. From there, you’ll click the Convert Lighting button and be directed to the Conversion tool.
Here, your game will feature a selection of items–maps and tokens–that you’ll be able to convert to Updated Dynamic Lighting. Just select the checkbox next to an item to mark it for conversion.
Once you’re ready to proceed, just click Convert.
It’s that simple!
As we mentioned above, the Conversion Tool is now available on the Dev server to all Pro users. If you’re interested in trying it out, head here to learn how to get on the Dev server. If you’re not a Pro user and you’d like to learn more, head here. Once you’ve tried the Tool out, please use this form to give us any and all feedback you might have.
